Multiple People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unsanctioned Gathering Descends into Chaos





On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unlawful gathering of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood erupted in gunfire when 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were actively breaking up the gathering.

A Timeline of Events

At approximately 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff was notified about individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons at Howe Community Park. An additional caller mentioned a possible altercation and subjects running away.

Air support was sent to the area and searched the park but found no evidence of any active disturbance.

Nonetheless, several hundred people had congregated at Howe Park for what deputies referred to as an unauthorized gathering. Law enforcement personnel positioned themselves around the park, switched on their vehicle lights, and dedicated around 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse over loudspeakers.

While law enforcement cleared the gathering, upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the area — sending hundreds of people running in a panic.

Those Injured

Four victims — three men and one woman, ranging in age through their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two were treated for immediate injuries, one sustained moderate injuries, and one suffered injuries classified as minor. All four victims were stable. Metro Fire Sacramento assisted with on-scene medical triage in the field.

What Was Found at the Scene

Gunfire originated from the Cottage Way side side of the park near the Home Depot store at the 2200 block click here of Howe Avenue. The Home Depot store was put under a brief lockdown. Additional shell casings were identified on Cottage Way, with projectile damage found in the metal fence around the Home Depot store — indicating a shooter who fired southward from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot. Investigators and crime scene technicians worked the scene overnight.

What We Know here About Suspects

Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was revealed that a suspect vehicle — a Kia check here automobile — was contacted in nearby Solano County with four suspects detained. SCSO deputies here were traveling to collect those detained and return them to Sacramento County for questioning. Video analysis confirmed two separate shooters.
